استخدم JPEG للصور الفوتوغرافية والصور المعقدة ذات التدرجات اللونية، وفي أي حالة يكون فيها حجم الملف الصغير أهم من الجودة المثالية.

التفاصيل التقنية

يستخدم JPEG ضغطًا قائمًا على تحويل جيب التمام المنفصل (DCT). يمكن ضبط الجودة من 1 إلى 100، حيث تحافظ القيم الأعلى على تفاصيل أكثر بأحجام ملفات أكبر.

التاريخ

تم تطوير JPEG بواسطة مجموعة خبراء التصوير المشتركة ونُشر كمعيار ISO 10918-1 في عام 1992. أصبح التنسيق المهيمن للصور على الويب بحلول منتصف التسعينيات.
