AVIF verwendet AV1-Intra-Frame-Codierung mit fortschrittlichen Transformationen und Vorhersagemodi. Es unterstützt 8-, 10- und 12-Bit-Farbtiefe, 4:4:4-Chroma, HDR10 sowie PQ/HLG-Transferfunktionen.
Geschichte
AVIF wurde im Februar 2019 von der Alliance for Open Media finalisiert. Chrome fügte 2020 Unterstützung hinzu, Safari folgte 2023 und vervollständigte damit die Abdeckung der wichtigsten Browser.
