Vídeo WebM

WebM es un formato de vídeo abierto y libre de regalías desarrollado por Google para la web. Utiliza los códecs de vídeo VP8, VP9 o AV1 con audio Vorbis u Opus en un contenedor basado en Matroska. WebM es compatible de forma nativa en Chrome, Firefox, Edge y Android.

Historia

Google presentó WebM en 2010 tras adquirir On2 Technologies y liberar VP8 como código abierto. VP9 llegó en 2013, y AV1 (desarrollado por la Alliance for Open Media) se añadió en 2018.
