技術的詳細
OpenTypeフォントはTrueType sfntコンテナにOpenType固有のテーブルを追加します：GSUB（グリフ置換 — リガチャー、代替字形）、GPOS（グリフ位置 — カーニング、マーク）、CFF/CFF2（PostScript 3次ベジェアウトライン）。TrueTypeアウトラインまたはCFFアウトラインのいずれかを含むことができます。
歴史
MicrosoftとAdobeは1996年にOpenTypeを共同開発しました。OpenType 1.0はTrueTypeとPostScript Type 1の両方のアウトラインを1つのコンテナに統合しました。OpenType 1.8（2016年）でフォントバリエーション（可変フォント）が追加されました。
