MP3 sử dụng mô hình tâm lý âm học để loại bỏ tần số mà tai người khó nghe (mặt nạ tần số). Nó xử lý các khung 1152 mẫu, hỗ trợ CBR/VBR/ABR, và lưu siêu dữ liệu trong thẻ ID3v1/ID3v2.
Lịch sử
Viện Fraunhofer phát triển MP3, chuẩn hóa vào năm 1993 (ISO/IEC 11172-3). Nó đã cách mạng hóa ngành công nghiệp âm nhạc thông qua Napster (1999) và iPod (2001). Bằng sáng chế hết hạn năm 2017.
